How the cup was won

Been quiet on this front lately for a variety of reasons, but no more obvious way to end the season than trying to breakdown the showpiece game.

Have a read below for my take on how Pats claimed the FAI Cup on Sunday 🔴⚪️

Patient Pats

• Patient build up play

• High quality progressive passes

• Fullbacks replacing wide players for width on ball side

• Mulraney having freedom to drift inside

This leads to the free kick for the equaliser on Sunday

Set Piece Atheltic

Credit given by Jon Daly in his post match about the staff looking after set pieces. Pats were dominant defending set pieces as well as scoring from two which ultimately won the game

• Quality of delivery

• Target area within the width of the posts

Relentless running

Can see a couple of examples here, aggressive pressing forcing Bohs long

• Carty working CBS

• Forrester recognising pass back to keeper as trigger to press

• Redmond stepping out to challenge aerial balls

• Leavys work rate to force Bohs back

Discipline in shape

• 4-1-4-1

• Cartys job to do the Bohs Centre backs

• Mulraney holds and doesn’t get drawn out

• Forcing long percentage balls which Redmond mops up

Defending the lead

Pats down to 10 in this example with Doyle just gone off the pitch injured - Carty fills in at left side

• Allowing Centre backs to have it

• Ready to press when it goes into the middle not allowing Bohs midfielders to get on it and turn

• Forcing Long

Pats get their rewards 🏆

• Ready to press if it looks to go central midfield

• Aggressive press not allowing Bohs to turn

• Forcing backwards

• Capitalising on the press forcing a mistake
